(Inspired by “Les Gosses de ma rue” by Alain Le Toullec)
The kids on my street travel the universe
The chalk on the pavement explodes without a bang
Imagination transcends the mundane hopscotch
Replaces tedious digits
With elements of their dreams
One becomes Peru, Two is now China,
Nine yields to Sirius and its constellation
Their laughter carries them on one foot
From the corners of the Earth to the night sky
To finally reach the Heavens
Before turning back and heading home
With tales of their travels and fragments of comets
As I walk by they let me through
Not without including me in their game
And I surprise myself hopping my way home
