Raging waters of time
Suddenly turned into sludge
Life has become still
The grandfather clock suspended
Between the tick and the tock
We used to kill it
By binging on futile media
Having forgotten the time’s symphony
Adagios, allegros and pauses
Our phones are now stuck on 9:01am
Empty streets, empty stores, empty shelves
A world void of mankind
Somehow has become more human
Reminder of how fragile
Our permission to exist really is
But have no fear, divided we stand
Our bombastic emperors, deaf and dumb
Confusing leading with screaming the loudest
Will soon be done evaluating
The economic cost of a human life
They will release us from our cage
For the upcoming hunting season
Sacrificing the old and the sick
Condemning our healers by the hundreds
Weaponizing a virus in the crucible of politics
Powerful and heartbreaking poem, Mathieu. I was especially moved by how “The grandfather clock suspended between the tick and the tock” captures life in the pandemic and that awful empty space of deep sadness.
